Reading Leaders

Reading Leaders

Before the summer children who wanted to be a Reading Leader applied by completing a written application form.  The standard was high and it was difficult to pick just once child from each class.  Letters were sent to the successful candidates.  There are six Reading Leaders (one child from Y2 – Y6) and they each wear a blue Reading Leader badge with pride.

Each week Mrs Wright reads a story in our Thursday assembly which links to our weekly focus. The front covers of the books that will be read for the year are displayed in our library area. Stories in Thursday's weekly story assembly

During assembly, one child from each class is awarded a Star Reader certificate and these certificates are handed out by our Reading Leaders.  Once assembly finishes, our Reading Leaders and Star Readers meet in the library to discuss favourite books and authors while enjoying a biscuit and glass of juice. It is lovely to see the children having in depth conversations and we all look forward to this assembly each week.

Our reading leaders work hard to keep our library areas tidy and encourage others to look after books as well as making suggestions to other children about books to read. In November, our leaders wanted to promote reading further and so in assembly they shared the recommended 100 books for each year group with the whole school and letters were then sent home  encouraging pupils to read as many of these books as possible.

The display below now has photographs of our Reading Leaders and our meetings along with a document wallet showing what we have done over the year.
